PROJECTS

COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS

Members have the opportunity to meet with students from local colleges to discuss issues that are of concern to the students. Members have met regularly with the York College Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Club.

COMFORT PRODUCTS

Every year, the Pennsylvania Legislature holds a state-wide “Diaper Drive.” The York Branch assists with this drive by collecting adult comfort products as well as babies’ diapers and delivers the items to a local legislator. The branch’s donations are combined with donations from other groups in the community and taken to a local food bank.

COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS

Members network with community organizations that share AAUW’s Vision of Equity for All. Members are made aware of community events/activities where they can meet with like-minded community members and share AAUW’s mission.

GET OUT THE VOTE

Information on the dates of elections, how to register to vote, and how to vote by mail are included in the Get Out the Vote Project.

NATIONAL COLLEGE CONFERENCE for WOMEN STUDENT LEADERS (NCCWSL)

This conference unites college women for a transformative experience in leadership development, inspiration and networking to a broader and more diverse group of college and university students. We provide financial support to local students who attend this event for our next generation of women leaders.

WRITE-READ-WRITE

Members correspond by written letters with third grade students under the guidance of their teacher at a local elementary school. Before the winter holidays, a book is given to each child according to their interests.

PAST PROJECTS

SPRING MARKET FAIRE

In 1981, the York Branch held its first Spring Market Faire. Affectionately known as the Kitchen Tour, this event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships since its inception. In each of 5 houses on the tour, a local chef demonstrates a recipe to guests who have purchased tickets in advance. Guests are offered a small taste of the dish and the recipe. Also, in each house, a female-owned or -managed business displays items for browsing.

YOUNG WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

The York Branch supports the Young Women’s Leadership Conference held at York College since it began in 2005. We are one of the community sponsors for this one day event, which is provided annually for around 1200 seventh-grade school girls from York County.  This is a vital self-esteem and confidence building program for our younger women during an important transitional time in their lives.
